Later, Nick grilled shrimp kabobs and they ate on deck while they watched the sun slip beneath the horizon. They danced until they drifted back to Nick’s stateroom where they made love far into the night.

Nick fell asleep holding Julia in his arms. She lay on her side and watched the steady rise and fall of his chest. Her gaze traveled beyond him as she looked around the stateroom. Now moonlight spilled through the portholes and gave a silvery illumination to her surroundings. When her attention returned to Nick, her pulse drummed. They had loved most of the day and night. In a few hours, it would be dawn again.

Julia wished she could hold back the dawn and delay the intrusion of the world and problems and differences. She wanted to say yes to Nick’s offers. She wanted badly to be with him and the thought of spending next weekend the same way as she had this one tore at her heart. Everything inside her screamed at her to accept.

If she continued to see him and it developed into a long-term relationship, Nick might fall in love with her.

She had to laugh at herself. How many women had succumbed to his charms with that very same reasoning, she wondered. Nick would always be Nick, and that meant single, center of his own world, steeped in ambition and driven to succeed and compete.

Not what she wanted in her life. Why did she have to keep reminding herself of that? His offers were pure temptation of the strongest kind. He was sexy, charming, everything she had suspected he would be when she had first encountered him in the restaurant parking lot.

He was so handsome it made her knees weak, and she could look at him for hours on end. He was so sexy, he had melted all her resistance and gotten past every barrier that had protected her heart all these years.

She wanted to continue to see him and she ached to have him in her life. She wanted to go with him on his travels, watch him ride in a rodeo. And she knew she couldn’t do any of it. As it was, he was going to give her a heartache, but how much worse it would be if she spent more time with him? He could shatter her heart into a million pieces.

She traced her fingers across his broad chest, feeling the regular strong beat of his heart, tangling her fingers lightly in his chest hair. “Nick,” she whispered, wondering how long it would take her to forget him. How long would it take her to get over him?

How could she ever forget this weekend? Nick was the first in her life. The first man she had given herself to completely in making love.

She wouldn’t have regrets there. He had been a consummate lover—sexy, considerate, passionate, unforgettable.

And for that, he would forever be in her memory. She had only herself to blame. She could have said no or resisted him or waited.
